Du'a and Sunnah Part 1: Practices for Eating and Drinking

Sunnahs of EATING FOOD

1) Laying dastarkhwan. 2) Washing both hands up to the knuckles and not wiping 3) Reciting dua before eating. 4) According to the Sunnah method, sitting one Zaanu or two Zaanu. 5) Eating with the right hand. 6) Eat in front of yourself. 7) Eating with three fingers. 8) If Lukma falls from your hand, pick it up and eat it.

9) Do not eat while leaning. 10) Cleaning utensils and     fingers by licking them. 11) Do not find faults in food. 12) Do not eat very hot food. 13) Reciting dua after meals. 14) Washing hands and gargling after eating.

Du'a to Start Eating بِسْمِ اللهِ وَبَرَكَةِ اللهِ Transliteration: Bismillah wa barakatillah Translation: In the name of Allah and with the blessings of Allah.

Du'a in the Middle of Eating (if you forget to say Bismillah at the beginning) بِسْمِ اللَّهِ فِي أَوَّلِهِ وَآخِرِهِ Transliteration: Bismillahi fī awwalihi wa akhirihi Translation: In the name of Allah at its beginning and at its end.

Du'a to End Eating الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنَا وَسَقَانَا وَجَعَلَنَا مُسْلِمِينَ Transliteration: Alhamdulillahi allathee at'amana wa saqana wa ja'alana Muslimeen Translation: All praise is due to Allah who has fed us and given us drink, and made us Muslims.

1) Drinking with right hand. 2) Drink while sitting. 3) Drink while watching. 4) Drink after reciting "Bismillah". 5) Drink in three breaths. 6) After drinking water Say "Alhamdulillah".

Sunnahs of drinking water

Du'a for Drinking Water : الحَمْدُ للهِ الَّذِي سَقَانَا عَذْبًا فُرَاتًا بِرَحْمَتِهِ وَلَمْ يَجْعَلْهُ مِلْحًا أُجَاجًا بِذُنُوبِنَا Transliteration: Alhamdulillahilladhi saqana ‘adhban furatan birahmatihi walam yaj‘alhu milhan ujajan bidhunubina Translation: All praise is due to Allah who gave us fresh sweet water by His mercy and did not make it bitter and salty due to our sins.

Du'a for Drinking Milk اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِيهِ وَزِدْنَا مِنْهُ Transliteration: Allahumma barik lana fihi wa zidna minhu Translation: O Allah, bless it for us and give us more of it.
